The Student Dot

How a pilot works.

Every number on this page shows its source or says it is not measured yet.

On the times

00:00 and 01:30 frame this story; neither is a measurement.

A lockdown, from 00:00 to 01:30.

Illustrative story.

  1. 00:00

    Lockdown is called.

The one screen at the front desk shows the lockdown alert.

    Lockdown

  2. To be measured

Every student shows where they are present.

Each dot sits in a building on the campus plan.

    Present in Library

  3. To be measured

    Guests show apart from students.

On the plan, students are filled dots and guests are rings.

    Guest, present in Front office

  4. 01:30

    All here.

The front desk reads the count as one sentence.

How ranging works

Installing a pilot.

No step carries a duration yet. Install times are published once a real install has been timed.

  1. Anchor

    Anchors go up.

A few anchors are fixed around campus.

  2. Zone

    Your campus is drawn.

Buildings and the field become zones on one plan.

  3. Range

    Ranging is checked.

The anchors measure their distance to a dot in every zone, a step called ranging.

  4. Dot

    Students get their dots.

Each student is issued a dot at scan-in.

Time to alert.

How long from the moment something happens to the alert on the front-desk screen.

Time to alert for each typed alert, with source
Alert Time to alert Source
Leaves campus To be measured No measurement yet
Lockdown To be measured No measurement yet

We do not estimate these. A cell changes only when a figure is measured, and its source is named beside it.

Drill replay.

A lockdown drill, replayed on the operator map with notes on what the front desk saw.

What the video shows

Not recorded yet, so there is nothing to describe. When the footage is placed, this text will describe every visual fact in it.
